Community

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

"Community is first of all a quality of the heart. It grows from the spiritual knowledge that we are alive not for ourselves, but for one another."- Henri Nouwen.

Recently, I came across a thought-provoking TikTok video where a woman called out the potential pitfalls of excessive self-absorption. She highlighted how the self-care movement, while crucial, can sometimes blind us to the needs of those around us. In our pursuit of personal growth and improvement, we may unintentionally isolate ourselves, losing touch with the sense of community and connection that brings profound fulfillment to our lives.

Setting boundaries is essential for building trust and nurturing healthy relationships. Clear boundaries help avoid misunderstandings and define expectations in our interactions with others. Additionally, they provide a foundation for meaningful and respectful communication, fostering an environment of mutual understanding.

Similarly, self-care is a vital aspect of maintaining our mental and physical well-being. It allows us to recharge, prevent burnout, and become the best versions of ourselves. However, as we prioritize our self-care, we must also be mindful of striking a balance.

While boundaries and self-care are essential, we should assess whether we have unintentionally distanced ourselves from meaningful connections. Reflecting on our current boundaries and understanding how they align with our personal values can provide valuable insights.

Take a moment to consider the following questions:

What boundaries do you currently have in place?

Do these boundaries align with your personal values and the needs of your relationships?

Are there any boundaries that might unintentionally isolate you from others, and could they be adjusted to promote a deeper sense of community?

Building deep connections and a strong community requires intentional efforts. Engaging in activities that foster shared interests, volunteering, or participating in group events can create opportunities for meaningful connections. Moreover, active listening, empathetic communication, and being present in our interactions can enhance the sense of community around us.

While setting boundaries and practicing self-care are vital for personal growth, it’s essential to strike a balance and not lose sight of the profound sense of fulfillment that comes from being part of a vibrant community. Let us embrace the interconnectedness of our lives and cultivate meaningful connections that enrich our spiritual journey and support one another in this beautiful journey of life.

Here's to embracing a new day and thriving in deserts, beautiful soul!
